Tom Christofk joins former WSTF Governors who have ridden on ahead after his battle with ALS
December 18, 1951 – July 22, 2020
The Board of Governors of the Western States Trail Foundation honors the memory of Tom Christofk, an amazing man who for over three decades has shared much of the heavy lifting for the Foundation and the Ride.
Tom served as WSTF President 2007 – 2008. Over the years Tom served on many WSTF committees including Chair of the Cup Committee, Vice-president of the Western States Trail Endowment Foundation and Ride Secretary, just to mention a few. He sat on the WSTF Board of Governors for many years. Tom was awarded the Dru Barner Award in 2018.
Tom, with his U. S. Marine Corps background, was an extremely competitive rider. Tom completed the Tevis ride four times, several in the top ten. Longtime friend, and former WSTF President, Chuck Mather had this to say about the many 100’s of riding and running miles he spent on the trail with Tom: “I first met Tom while running. We soon discovered our shared passion for running and riding. His competitive nature and love for speed led to his motto ‘never give an inch’ when competing.”
His love of the trail and the ride created a commitment that involved him in the creation of the joint trail committee with the Western States Endurance Run. He was instrumental in envisioning and helping to create the Chicken Hawk/Pieper Junction Staging Area, the expansion of the Auburn Staging Area, and several other trail projects.
Tom leaves behind his wife Laura Christofk, sons Clint and Colt Christofk, and daughter Heather Christofk-Hively.
Again, with gratitude for all he did and with love in our hearts, the Board members of the Western States Trail Foundation recognizes the memorable life of our late friend, Tom Christofk. May you rest in peace.
