AUBURN. . . Endurance Capital of the World

by Richard Barsaleau, DVM

A town like Auburn. . . a man like Robie

            (tell you what I know)

They met and meshed like fitted gloves

and to the world did show

That distance riding earned its place

            with horse and rider teams

As Wendell forecast from the start–

            winners finish sound it seems.

The hundred miles of mountain trail

the heat, the dust, the sweat

That horse and rider tolerate

            hones horsemanship, you bet!

To honor pioneering names

with the Tevis and Haggin Cup

The ride has kept alive their spirit

            and Wendell Robie measured up!

For those of you who train for this

            the ultimate hundred mile test

We take much pride in what you do

            make a solemn last request;

That you will honor by your deeds

            along that long, tough trail

Take proper care of faithful horse

            and finish sound, never fail.

For horse and rider, just one goal

            complete this grueling course

Dedicate both mind and heart

            to glorify your trail-wise horse.

And now the hundred miles of trail

            that ends in Auburn Town

THE ENDURANCE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD

truly the ride of Grand Renown!!!
